Hawk Mountain Sanctuary will host its annual Fall Native Plant Sale on September 20, from 10 AM – 3 PM outside the Visitor Center. The sale will feature over 100 species of native trees, vines, wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs. The sale is open to the public, and all proceeds benefit Hawk Mountain's conservation and education programs.

A variety of native wildflowers, such as asters, goldenrods, milkweeds, coneflowers, and black-eyed susans, will be available for purchase. Knowledgeable native plant volunteers will be on hand to help visitors choose the right plants for their yards. To make selection easy, plants will be grouped by habitat type, either sunny/dry or shady/moist. For those who want to dig deeper, the Visitor Center bookstore also offers a range of books on native plant gardening.

The Native Plant Sale takes place during peak raptor migration season, making it the perfect time to visit Hawk Mountain to hawkwatch and enjoy a full weekend of programs. Free events include the ever-popular Raptors Up Close! demonstration, featuring live birds of prey, in addition to other Weekend Programs. Guests can also join special paid programs, such as the How to Draw Wildflowers Workshop with naturalist-artist Jack Hobe from 1–3 PM, where participants will learn techniques for sketching wildflowers and other native flora. That same day, families can celebrate Monarch Day from 10 AM–3 PM, with kids’ activities, learning stations, and a live monarch tagging demonstration at 1 PM. For those looking for a deeper dive into migration, Migration Magic: Enjoying Neotropical Migrant Birds on the Move will be offered Sept. 20-21. Led by Dr. Terry Master, this two-day course explores migratory birdwatching across different habitats and provides an introduction to trapping and banding songbirds.
