Our new Visitor Center is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of supporters like you, we have already raised $10 million toward our expanded $13 million campaign goal for the new Center for Global Raptor Conservation. Now, just $3 million stands between us and the completion of this once-in-a-generation project.
Your support at this pivotal moment will help create a world-class center that inspires visitors, advances raptor conservation, and protects these extraordinary birds for generations to come.
Plans to reimagine and rebuild our aging Visitor Center have been ongoing since 2019 following broad stakeholder input and a Visioning Plan. Simply put, our beloved Visitor Center has passed its useful lifespan and a rebuild is a necessity. This project will capstone two decades of strategic improvements: opening the Acopian Center in 2002, upgrading the Education Building in 2013, constructing our first ADA trail in 2015, and completing the Amphitheater and ADA connector trail in 2021.
Where are We Now?
Over the past several months, our architects, engineers, staff, board, and construction team have been transforming ideas into reality and every meeting, and every detail brings us one step closer to creating a Visitor Center worthy of Hawk Mountain’s global conservation mission.
This facility will be a welcoming gateway to conservation—a place where families gather, students discover nature, scientists share their work, and visitors from around the world experience the wonder of Hawk Mountain.

Educate All
Construct a fully accessible and inclusive Visitor Center that introduces people to the world of raptor conservation, migration science, and Appalachian ecology, and serve as a launching point to the Sanctuary experience.
Preserve Tradition
Blend modern elements seamlessly with historic materials and native and/or locally sourced stone and wood.
Promote Science
Honor the Sanctuary’s history while sharing the latest in global raptor conservation science and training.
Keep It Green
Model sustainable building and bird friendly practices to improve efficiency, reduce impact, and offer education opportunities to inspire raptor conservation through education, science, and stewardship.
