Bequests

This simple designation will not affect cash flow during your lifetime. It's also easy to revoke should your situation change.

Perhaps you're able to make a larger gift to Hawk Mountain after you're gone than you could during your lifetime. Including a bequest provision in your will is common and simple to set up. You can specify a specific dollar amount, property or a percentage of the remainder of your estate, and you also can designate your support for a specific program. In all cases, the full amount of your bequest to Hawk Mountain is deductible for estate tax.

Common formats

  • Specific Bequest: Hawk Mountain receives a specified dollar amount.
  • Residuary Bequest: Hawk Mountain receives a specific percentage of the remainder of your estate after your legacies are distributed and taxes, debts and settlement costs are paid.
  • Contingent Bequests: Hawk Mountain receives a share or all of your estate only if you outlive your primary beneficiary or beneficiaries.
  • Trust Remainder Bequests: Named beneficiaries receive income from a trust fund established by your will. Upon the death of any surviving beneficiaries, all or part of the principal of your trust then goes to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.

Benefits of a Bequest:

  • You control your assets and cash flow throughout your lifetime.
  • You can change your will or trust at any time.
  • Your will is completely private, and not made public until your death.
  • Your bequest is usually exempt from state inheritance tax.
  • The full amount of your bequest is deductible for federal estate tax, and there's no limit on the estate tax deduction.
