Join us at Hawk Mountain for the global celebration of birds and nature!
World Migratory Bird Day is held annually to raise awareness of the need to protect migratory birds and their habitats. This year’s campaign theme is Every Bird Counts – Your Observation Matter. Participate in guided bird walks and visit activity stations to learn how you can get involved in citizen science and what you can do to help support migratory birds.
2026 Program Schedule:
10-10:45 AM - Sit Spot/Slow Birding in the Garden
The habitat garden is a great place to look for returning migrant song birds. We will move at a leisurely along the .15 mile loop trail. Surface consists of pavers and may be slightly uneven in some sections. Meet at information pavilion Combination of sun and shade. Benches available in the bird blind. Bring binoculars. (Four pair of loaner binoculars will be available.) All abilities and birding skill levels welcome!
10 AM-2 PM - WMBD Passport & Kid Activities
Visit all activity stations and fill in passport answers. Turn in your completed passport to be entered in a drawing for a Hawk Mountain prize pack!
10 AM-2 PM - Naturalist in the Garden
Chat with one of our knowledgeable naturalists and see what’s blooming in the Native Habitat Garden.
11 AM - Name That Raptor
Learn to ID Hawk Mountain’s common raptors with a little help from a Hawk Mountain trainee and their helpful guides that show you the key field marks to watch for in the sky. The program also covers the basic size differences, shapes and behaviors that help you key in on the correct species, as well as how to watch for the silhouette of a bird that is soaring overhead.
11:15 AM - Raptors Up Close!
Hawk Mountain's signature live raptor program Raptors Up Close! offers the chance to see live hawks and owls, and to learn what puts these winged predators at the top of nature's food chain. This program guarantees that you will see a live raptor during your visit and is appropriate for visitors of all ages.
11 AM-2 PM - Feeder Interpretation
Join a Hawk Mountain naturalist to see what birds can are visiting our feeder station. (Appropriate for all abilities, ages and birding skill levels. Stationary event. Four pair of loaner binoculars available.)
2 PM - Name That Raptor
2:15 PM - Raptors Up Close!
