Come celebrate Birdability Week at the Sanctuary! Open to all ages, abilities, and experience levels, this event is part of a nationwide effort to promote accessibility in outdoor recreation, ensuring that birding is truly for everybody.

Visitors with special needs can enjoy a variety of inclusive experiences, including Raptors Close Up, Stationary Birding, Accessible Hawk Watch, and Raptor Adaptation Station (see schedule below). ASL interpreters will also be available during select programs.

Raptors Up Close
10am, 12pm, 2pm - Amphitheater
ASL interpreter at 12 & 2
Terrain: crushed stone and packed dirt, max 7% grade

Stationary Birding
10am - 3pm - Native Habitat Garden
ASL interpreter from 10:30am-11:30am
Terrain: .15 mile loop with both open and shaded areas. The trail consists of pavers and ranges from 48"-70" wide. A few benches available or bring yourown chair.

Accessible Hawk Watch
10am - 3pm - South Lookout ( .3 mile)
Experience the magic of the fall migration. Naturalist will provide flight interpretation and ID tips.
Terrain: pavers, packed dirt, crushed/packed stone, max 8% grade

Raptor Adaptation Station
10am - 3pm - Information Pavilion

Birdability is the national organization behind Birdability Week. It is dedicated to making birding and the outdoors welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for everyone, especially people with disabilities such as low vision, hearing loss, neurodivergence, or mobility challenges.

Birdability Week, a national celebration, is held during the third week of October. It highlights the birding community’s efforts to make birdwatching and outdoor spaces more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for everyone, especially individuals with disabilities. The week raises awareness, shares resources, and encourages participation from birders of all abilities.
