Appalachian Ecology Field Course

Appalachian Ecology Course participants engaging in watershed education

Embark on a transformative journey designed for aspiring conservation professionals! This immersive field course integrates principles of service learning, where participants engage in meaningful, hands-on conservation work while living in a collaborative environment.

Throughout this program, students will develop essential field skills across various conservation disciplines, applying theoretical concepts to real-world challenges, including the monitoring and enhancement of local wildlife and their habitats.

This is not a summer camp; it is a serious residential experience set amidst the breathtaking backdrop of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Participants will camp on-site, working together as a cohesive team responsible for shared meals and daily chores, fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork. Ideal candidates, aged 15 to 17, should possess a deep passion for the natural world and a keen interest in pursuing a career in conservation or wildlife management.

This course provides unique opportunities for direct mentorship from Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s renowned scientists and award-winning stewardship staff, as well as interaction with a diverse array of conservation professionals.

Participants will not only acquire vital knowledge and skills but also build invaluable connections within the conservation community.

Join us for this unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in conservation work, develop lasting friendships, and take significant strides toward your future in environmental stewardship!
