Mottled Gray Carpet Moth Contrasted on Rock

This Mottled Gray Carpet Moth (Cladara limitaria) was spotted clinging motionless to the side of the Trail Entrance. These nocturnal beauties are a mottled gray and brown that serves to camouflage them to trees. Wings occasionally display flecks of yellow or green. Caterpillars feed on sheep laurel and other evergreen species.
