Sharp-shinned Hawk in Flight

The Spring 2021 Migration Hawk Watch has officially begun! The first bird of the season, spotted by Senior Research Biologist and head of the count, David Barber, was a sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus). Counters saw 58 sharpshins during the 2020 spring watch, and the 10 year average is about 89. How many will we see this year?

The spring count runs through the end of May. Plan your spring visit to the Lookout now!
