Blusher Mushroom
Posted on in Recent Sightings by Hawk Mountain
Many Amanita species have sprouted up around the Sanctuary, including these large Blusher Mushrooms (Amanita rubescens) near the trailhead. Blushers are native to deciduous and coniferous forests of both eastern North America and Europe. They have pale pink to reddish-brown caps that are freckled with white warts. When cut the white flesh “blushes,” turning pink when exposed to air.
Certain Amanitas are edible, but many more are lethally poisonous. It is incredibly important to do your research and learn from experienced foragers before taking up the hobby.
