FirstEnergy Scientist Amy Placek joins board

The board of directors recently elected Amy Placek, a scientist and the in-house avian expert for FirstEnergy, to a four-year term on the Hawk Mountain board. Amy works in their Environmental Department and as part of her work, partners with state agencies throughout FirstEnergy territory on various issues.

Previously, she worked with Ohio Department of Natural Resources on monitoring and banding peregrine falcons nesting at company power plants along the Lake Erie Shore and she also has worked with the Pennsylvania Game Commission on finding nesting alternatives on distribution poles and installing nesting platforms for osprey around the Shenango Reservoir. Amy is FirstEnergy’s representative to the APLIC group, the national utility organization that provides guidance on mitigating avian interactions with power lines.

When she's not working, Amy resides in Ohio where she volunteers with local running groups to help maintain trails in the Cuyahoga National Park, and enjoys long-distance marathons, hiking, and backpacking.
