Off to a Flying Start! Migration Kick-Off

Join us for a day celebrating the wonders of migration!

A full day of kids crafts and activities, guided bird walks, live raptor programs, naturalists in the garden, and our annual Mountain Raffle drawing! Schedule is as follows:

9am – Guided Bird Walk, Join a Hawk Mountain naturalist in search of songbirds and raptors.  (Trail fee applies to non-members) 

10am – 2pm – Kids Activities/Crafts

11:00am & 2:00pm – Raptors Up Close - Hawk Mountain's signature live raptor program offers the chance to see live hawks and owls, and to learn what puts these winged predators at the top of nature's food chain. This program guarantees that you will see a live raptor during your visit and is appropriate for visitors of all ages. 

11am – 2pm - Naturalist in the Garden; learn about native plants that will attract wildlife to your yard.  

12:00pm – Mountain Raffle Drawing – Enter to win some great prizes and support the Sanctuary mission.  Tickets must be purchased by 11:45am.

12:00pm – 2:00pm - Raptor Identification – Learn to ID Hawk Mountain’s common raptors with Hawk Mountain’s Director of Long-Term Monitoring, Dr. Laurie Goodrich.  Laurie will show you the key field marks to watch for in the sky.  She will also cover the basic size differences, shapes and behaviors that help you key in on the correct species, as well as how to watch for the silhouette of a bird that is soaring overhead.  South Lookout (trail fee applies for non-member)

10am – 3pm

  • Meet with optics specialists from Swarovski, Zeiss, and Opticron to test and learn about a variety of their products.  Discounts will be available on most products.  Get ready for migration season with a new pair of binoculars. 
  • Membership/Volunteer Table– learn about the many ways you can help support Hawk Mountain.
  • Art Display/Sale by wildlife artist and Hawk Mountain volunteer, Dave Hughes.
