Fringed Polygala

Fringed polygalas (Polygala paucifolia) are blooming on the mountain! These light pink to magenta perennials are named for their ability to increase milk production in nursing mammals and were also used by the Iroquois to treat skin inflammations such as abscesses, boils, and sores. They thrive in the moist coniferous forests of northeastern North America from spring to early summer.
