Partnership conserves 22 acres at Hawk Mountain

Hawk Mountain, in partnership with The Conservation Fund and Berks Nature, has acquired 22 acres of land adjacent to its Acopian Center. The undeveloped cropland will be incorporated into the Sanctuary’s landholdings and improved as meadow and grasslands with minimal tree plantings. Sanctuary study connects countries and cultures

Scientists at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, a raptor-migration watchsite in Kempton, Pa, report that, for the first time ever, counters at partner watchsites in Veracruz, Mexico have sighted several of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s wing-tagged turkey vultures migrating south this autumn. The birds involved were tagged by former Sanctuary intern Adrian Naveda in northwestern Venezuela, and were seen by another former intern in Veracruz, Mexico.

Dr. Keith Bildstein will attend the Global Flyways Workshop supported by the United Nations Convention on Migratory Species outside of Seoul South Korea on october 17-20. The Hawk Mountain scientists is one of two representing the United States, and the only representing a non-profit organization from the United States.
