Hawk Mountain Joins 2018 Year of the Bird Movement

Hawk Mountain has joined the global Year of the Bird movement with its continued conservation efforts and several events on the Mountain in 2018 .

At the start of this year, National Geographic joined forces with National Audubon Society, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, BirdLife International, and more than 100 organizations for a year of attention and conversation regarding how the changing environment is impacting birds around the globe. The Year of the Bird campaign is simple and asks for any groups or organizations to take small but meaningful actions to help maintain "a healthy planet filled with the beauty of birds" in order to celebrate the centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

The Year of the Bird is also the theme of the 2018 World Migratory Bird Day celebration, which Hawk Mountain celebrates with various activities on Saturday, May 12. In addition to this established event, Hawk Mountain will dedicate this Year of the Bird focus to several other events:

Hawk Mountain's research and education efforts inspire global conservation efforts year-round, and this year, that will be no different through the #BirdYourWorld campaign, which is promoted by nonprofit and conservation groups, state and federal agencies, zoos, nature centers, and ornithological societies that are working together to raise the visibility of birds and inspire conservation action around the world.
