Welcome new Sanctuary Caretaker Ben Gangaware

A new friendly face on the Mountain

Hawk Mountain recently announced Ben Gangaware as a new member of the Sanctuary's professional conservation crew as a Caretaker.

Ben will assist with maintenance and service tasks, including advising visitors, and trail and facility maintenance. Ben will be involved in projects that will improve Hawk Mountain, such as updating signs and other trail features.  He will also lead the Trail Stewards Program, a land-management volunteer training program that aids in trail management and construction projects.

Although Ben is new to this full-time job, he is definitely not new to Hawk Mountain. He has participated in the HMS Conservation Corps since 2010, and has worked with operations personnel part-time in the past. He graduated in December from Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in Parks and Resource Management and is thrilled to work at a place he enjoys. "I'm lucky to work at the Sanctuary, doing what I am so passionate about," he said. "I'm excited to be able to use the skills I learned in school to benefit Hawk Mountain and its conservation work."
