Red-back Rescue

Today on Hawk Mountain's blog The Vulture Chronicles, Dr. Keith Bildstein shared an experience during his most recent trip to the Faulkland Islands that he just returned from earlier this week.

He and his team had come across a pair of red-backed hawks finishing a feast on an upland goose, but as their vehicle came closer, they saw a pack of striated caracaras beginning to attack the female hawk. Bildstein jumped to the rescue and then released the bird the next day after it had time to recover.
