A tagged black vulture was seen in its nest with two 20 day old young in a cave below Hemlock Heights.

Rhododendron and indian pipe is in bloom along the trail at South Lookout and at the River of Rocks

A red-tailed hawk grabbed a chipmunk along lookout trail near the River of Rocks Overlook. 

The pond in the garden is active with blooming water lilly and lush green cattails.  Painted turtles and green frogs were seen in the water.  Blue darners, green darners, and an eastern pondhawk were seen landing on emergent plants.

There were many red efts following the rainy morning.  There were black and white warblers and cowbirds at North Lookout.  There were white tailed deer tracks along North Lookout Trail.  Indian pipe was flowering on the North Lookout Trail.

A yellow billed cuckoo was seen in the Amphitheater.

A fresh turkey carcass was found near the Hall of the Mountain King.  The predator is undetermined.

Adult and immature red-tailed hawks were seen near the gate.  There was also a nesting wood thrush with babies in the Mountain Laurel along the Look Out Trail.

A leaf nibbling chipmunk was seen outside the visitor center kitchen.  A scarlet tanager, pewee, black and white warbler and a towhee were heard outside the visitor center.  Two fawns were spotted in the garden, which means the fence is still down.

A juvenile red-tailed hawk was seen feeding on Hawk Mountain Road just below the entrance on the north side.

A garter snake was seen in the leaves just off the employee entrance steps.

A barred owl was heard calling from cobble.  There was a wood turtle along the trail near the visitor center.  The same wood turtle was seen later in the parking lot and was moved into the woods for its protection. 

There was a baby black rat snake at the north lookout.

An immature red-tailed hawk took a squirrel along the rail near the trail gate.

Two pileated woodpeckers were seen by the Visitor Center.

Red-tailed hawk was seen perched in the large tree in the garden.  A robin was seen carrying off a ring-necked snake from the front yard of the Common Room.

A red-shouldered hawk was seen at the front gate.  There were also many chattering chipmunks.
