Eastern Chipmunk

Eastern Chipmunk

This little guy was found sharing lunch with the birds today, and would often scurry away—cheeks full—to desposit seed in a hollow tree hole.

Chipmunks are omnivorous and will eat anything from bird seed, berries and vegetables to earthworms, insects and snails. Females, in particular, eat a more protein-rich diet, whereas males consume more materials that are high in carbohydrates. Males also emerge from their burrow first in the spring, followed a week or two later by females, so it's safe to say that spring is indeed almost here!
